Bathroom habits passengers should never have on a plane

A flight attendant reveals the worst passengers’ habits

People often give the worst of themselves when it comes to using public toilets. Sometimes because they are afraid of germs and other times because they don’t care about a place it’s not their home. Plane toilets are no less.

A flight attendant shared some advice on how passengers should use the bathroom on an airplane. Although several airlines have tightened cleaning procedures since the coronavirus outbreak, the staff member claimed that some bathroom areas are known for being gross.

As reported here, many passengers unwittingly enter some of the plane’s dirtiest spaces and risk spreading germs to themselves by doing so. That’s why it’s important to wear shoes onboard especially in bathrooms because people often pee on the floor.

All information comes from a Reddit post titled: ‘Flight attendants of Reddit, what dark secret you don’t tell your passengers?’.

The flight attendant who answered the post (under the username of Halfpinlc), explained that turnarounds must occur quickly, therefore the restrooms are swiftly wiped down and vacuumed to make them appear and smell clean.

Even if splashes on the restroom floor are immediately cleaned up, there may still be germs there that are invisible to the naked eye because drops tend to dry up quickly leaving bacteria on surfaces till the plane lands for a thorough cleaning.

Since planes reach a high altitude and air comes from outside, humidity inside is minimal. Therefore, any fluid dropped on the surfaces is going to dry fast.

If you think about how many people use the bathroom, how many liquid spillages may occur, and how many of these get invisible to the eyes, you see how dirty a plane can be.

Therefore, in case you decide to remove your shoes, your besocked feet can contribute to spreading germs when you put them back in your shoes.

In addition, another dirty place to avoid, according to another flight attendant (with the username HausofDarling), who has over 6 years of experience, is the seat pocket. The crew member recommends never putting anything in it because it’s one of the dirtiest places on the plane.
