A TikTok trend prompts users to fake a travel using any object

One of many trends that always look more outlandish on TikTok

Social networks have always offered beautiful photos and videos, but often trends have triggered the most ridiculous content (think of the coronavirus challenge or the pee your pants challenge, or the more moderate toilet paper challenge), but even the most impressive contents are not always reliable. This is the case of another trend with the hashtag #faketravel that spread especially on TikTok where users were prompted to show how to “travel” around the world while remaining comfortably at home. This trend that has so far clocked up more than 14 million views, but has shown how with simple tricks, you can make believe you’re traveling by plane even if you’re sitting on the “toilet”.

It’s not the first time that social media shows how well-masterminded photos and videos can give a fake idea of reality. Some had managed and still manage to deceive their Instagram followers of being wealthy or constantly traveling to luxurious places, simply through appropriate photo montages.

Among the most memorable past trends, we must certainly remember those on Instagram called respectively: cheeky exploits (in which people showed their bared butts surrounded by beautiful landscapes) and the nutscaping (where, instead, they showed a landscape from their balls’ perspective).

In this case, instead, some TikTokers have managed to simulate an airplane trip by using everyday objects, such as detergent bottles, cups, or stools as a surrogate for the airplane window, but the funniest are definitely those where they have used toilet seat for this purpose, making photos and videos in which the subjects seemed to be sitting at the window seat admiring the landscape outside.
