The one-room Hotel Casanus is a giant intestinal building that allows guests to spend a cozy night inside a huge colon which it’s been designed by the Dutch artist Joep Van Lieshout.
The hotel is located at the Verbeke Foundation Sculpture Park, in Belgium, in a peaceful field close to a pond with ducks and under a generally starry night. The slim, curved interior of the furnished anus features a double bed, windows, heating, and of course, a toilet. The exterior of the room is sculpted with bulging veins and a giant sphincter (non-functional) on one end, and the visceral exposed organs on the exterior are painted in red. The colossal muscle tube almost seems out of place in the idyllic art park, however, visitors still flock to the site to spend the night in the big colon which is also surrounded by such a wondrous setting with black swans and an unobstructed view of the night sky.
The Hotel hosts around 20,000 visitors per year and one night cost $140 for two people. Breakfast and access to the museum are included in the price.
The hotel installation belongs to art collectors Geert and Carla Verbeke-Lens. If you’re interested you should make your reservation at least a week in advance.
