Where is the most relaxing and quiet place to hide from the rest of the world? For men, it appears to be the bathroom.
Researchers polled 1,000 men and discovered that nagging partners, children, and chores are the reason why most of the men hide in the bathroom spending about 7 hours a year.
They found that men spending time in the bathroom often don’t use it, but they stay there just to be quiet and relax, watching their mobile phones undisturbed.
Everyone needs time on their own to take stock or switch off from the rest of the world. So, the most convenient place seems to be the bathroom, a room where taboos let us moments of privacy.
However, according to the research, on average 1 in 10 visits to the bathroom are interrupted, especially by partners or kids.
The study also found that 14% of men hide things in the bathroom like magazines, books, and even food when they retreat there. 23% described the bathroom as a ‘safe space’ while a quarter of them said they wouldn’t know how to cope if they couldn’t go to the toilet.
45% of men said they struggle to find time for themselves and the bathroom is the only place that guarantees that.
Even so, 85% of men said they get disturbed in the toilet even when they explicitly declared they don’t want to.
